Russia gave a further six months

Yesterday

meeting was held in Doha International Forum of Gas Exporting Countries (FSEG). Permanent secretary general did not choose the forum. Most participants supported Russia, which has proposed to postpone the final solution to the issue in December. This is beneficial to Moscow because it gives a few more months to find a candidate for the post, in fact reserved for the representative of the Russian Federation.

FSEG

Yesterday's meeting had not fulfilled the main task. As announced before, in Doha, energy ministers of member countries FSEG be elected secretary general of the organization. However, the majority of the participants decided to postpone this matter until the next meeting FSEG to be held in December in the same Doha.

This decision was a victory for Moscow. The thing is that, reached in December last year, an informal agreement Russia was to propose a candidate for the post of secretary general FSEG that other participants have pledged to support. However, over the past six months, Moscow has still not found a suitable candidate.

Russia has at its meeting in Doha was a serious opponent in the face of Iran. Tehran, the only participants of the meeting announced in advance the name of their candidate - he became vice-president of the National Iranian Gas Company Hodzhatolla Ganimifard. But Iran's OPEC representative Mohammad Ali Khatib on Monday said that the election of secretary general will in any case. According to one of the participants, the main opponents of such a position was made head of the Ministry of the Russian Federation Sergey Shmatko, who headed the Russian delegation.

At his suggestion it was decided to change the format of the meeting and hold a meeting in a narrow range, after which all members of the delegations, except ministers, out of the courtroom. According to a source, after a lengthy discussion, the majority of participants supported Russia and agreed to postpone the election of secretary general in December, giving Moscow a further six months for reconsideration. Until then, Minister of Energy of Qatar, will serve as secretary general FSEG on a temporary basis.

The main outcome of yesterday's meeting was the approval of the organization, a list of its working bodies and the size of the starting budget. Until the development of the organization, according to Kommersant-Ukraine, agreed to allocate $ 2 million The money will be spent on staff salaries, building facilities and office supplies. Qatar has promised to provide to the Secretariat FSEG space free of charge.

When all the participants in the meeting promised to expedite the ratification of the agreement establishing the FSEG that have already made Algeria, Egypt, Qatar, Libya, Trinidad and Tobago, as well as Russia. The representative of Iran said that Tehran issued all the necessary documents, but no written confirmation has not provided. Bolivia, Venezuela, Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea have promised to ratify the agreement in the coming months.
